The IDRlabs Willpower Test was developed by IDRlabs.

The test measures traits such as the following:

DECISION MAKING covers determination and the courage to make the necessary choices. High scorers recognize that regardless of the circumstances, decisions must be made in order to move forward in life. The ability to make decisions is a prerequisite for developing one's willpower.

PERSISTENCE means that once you have made a decision, you stick to it, no matter how difficult it may be. It means doing what needs to be done in order to achieve the results you have decided on. People high in persistence do what it takes to attain the outcomes they want, regardless of the practical circumstances or even their own attitudes toward the task at hand.

EFFORT involves investing the necessary time and/or physical or mental energy needed to achieve one’s desired results. Most people who have exercised know about physical exertion. When you exert yourself physically, you use all your strength to reach the goal, even if doing so is unpleasant. Similarly, mental effort involves subduing opposing thoughts and attitudes in order to achieve one's non-tangible goals.

JOY means that you are able to be happy about opportunities and results in life; that you have the ability to be happy simply rolling with life and accepting its challenges. Experiencing or fostering positive thoughts before dealing with a conflict could also be an example of how joy could assist in achieving the desired resolution. Joy is a force that supports us in what we want and thus gives us the energy to achieve what we want.

Many individuals believe that if we only had more of that mythological thing called willpower, we could improve our lives. With more self-discipline, we would all be more successful, eat right, and exercise regularly. We would avoid alcohol, save for our retirement, stop procrastinating, and achieve all kinds of lofty goals.

Take, for example, the results of the annual American Stress Survey conducted by the American Psychological Association. Among other things, the survey asks about participants' ability to make healthy lifestyle changes. Survey participants regularly cite the lack of willpower as the top reason for not making such changes. In other words, there are many benefits to improving one’s willpower.
